Red Heart Yarn-Contest!

Do you remember the first "yarn craft" you made? I do! I was 4 years old and just read the book Charlotte's Web. I wanted to be like Charlotte and so I decided to make my own "web" in my bedroom. I found a skein of yarn (it was orange)  and started tying it to every imaginable surface. The idea was to make my "web" all over my bedroom and then be able to crawl on it. I worked hard on it, so imagine my disappointment when my mom came in and wasn't as pleased with me as I thought she would be. (Apparently it took almost 2 hours to cut down my "web".)

As I have grown, naturally  my yarn crafting abilities have grown too.  From the humble beginnings of web making, I progressed to "god's eyes," and finger weaving, to knitting. My skill level knitting wise is basic, but that doesn't stop me from appreciating the gorgeous creations of my mother-in-law and friends. I love seeing what they create and then learning about the creative process and what supplies they used. I then use those recommendations to guide my purchasing decisions.

Apparently I'm not alone what influences my purchasing decisions. In a 2012 Fleishmen Hillard Survey.  Women value the opinion of others very highly when it comes to making a purchasing decision, and half of all women consider it their role to help others make smart decisions when it comes to purchasing product.

The "Women's Choice Award" has a goal of helping women make better purchasing decisions. This product seal is awarded to companies and products, that are most recommended in a poll of thousands of women across the united states. For 2015 that seal was awarded to Red Heart Yarn. It's important to know this isn't just the brand used by women, it signifies that women are are willing to recommend it to others. As Delia Passi  CEO and Founder of the Women's Choice Awards states:
“When a woman is willing to recommend a brand or service to others, it means that business has earned her loyalty. Those are the businesses we wish to recognize for their efforts and commitment to the No. 1consumer – women."

To celebrate their achievement. Red Heart Yarn is sponsoring a giveaway right here! One lucky reader will win a $50 prize packages sent directly to them by Red Heart! The prize includes:

  1. How funny! I don't have a clear memory of my first yarn craft. It was probably a God's Eye at Sunday School or something like that. I do listen to friends' recommendations for purchases when it is something (like yarn) that is not in my expertise.

  2. Truthfully, price is the major factor that influences my purchases of yarn. Appearance of the yarn also impacts my decision.

  3. I crochet something every day for my favorite charity (Operation Christmas Child). Price does influence my purchases of yarn since I do go through quite a bit. Red Heart is my favorite though!

  4. Price is a factor, but softness and appearance rank highly too. I knit for littles who won't wear itchy or scratchy things.

  5. Friend's reviews are in the top three reasons why I would buy an item. When on Amazon, etc. I always read the reviews before buying. The price is a factor and having what I want also.
This is an awesome prize! Thanks for sharing. :)

  6. I made a sweater in college. Not sure why because knitting was not my thing. I love soft yarns!

  8. Recommendations from valued friends certainly will influence my purchasing decisions. I also like searching on the internet for reviews of something I am considering purchasing, especially major purchases. I am a follower of your blog now. :)

  9. I mostly rely on my own opinion when purchasing but for bigger purchases I also do research asking friends or family, researching online, etc. For yarn it is all about the color and the feel. :) Price remains an important factor as well... both for my charity work for Operation Christmas Child and to make wise use of our funds.

  10. I love new colors and what the yarn is designed for, crochet is my weakness , I have made an afghan for every member of my family and now the women all want scarves. I love searching for new designs and want to try new ideas. My Mom has big a big influence in my lifestyle of crochet, she makes up her own patterns and design.

  12. So many things influence me....I'm so wishy washy....I hate it!!! Lol. Mostly it would be the pattern, I like to use, when possible the same type/brand of yarn that the pattern calls for...No out of the box for me. Then there is price....I'd love to be able to buy high quality wools but it's so expensive I can't. Friends/family also influence me....if I like something they've made I'll buy the same type of yarn to duplicate it. Sorry that was probably more detailed than you needed...lol Thanks so much for the chance to win!!

Price always seems to be a determining factor for me. As I have gotten older though, I have learned that I will often have to sacrifice price for quality. It ends up costing more in the end if I have to replace something if quality doesn't hold up to my expectations.

  15. Friends and emails sent to me by the yarn companies get me the itch for new product

  16. Usually I just go based on what I like and what I'm making! I often buy this brand though! :)

  17. I base my decisions on the colors that I'm looking for and then by price that will fit the scheme. I use red heart quite often.

  18. I normally start with a pattern or an idea for a project and then find the yarn that fits my taste and budget. I find that getting samples or small projects greatly influence whether I will buy the yarn again.

  19. The biggest things that influence my purchasing decisions are 1.) what I actually need to complete the project and 2.) Price! I would definitely ask a friend for advice if I didn't know what I was looking for (like yarn), but would definitely adjust the advice if it didn't fit the project or price...because you know I just can't make myself follow directions, LOL!

  20. I have been crafting for what seems like my entire life. I mostly choose items based on seeing/feeling it in person, and of course cost has to be a factor. I definitely listen when friends tell me what they like or don't like though!

  22. My first yarn project was a "string art" picture, done with yarn. My mother taught me how to knit on a thread spool with little nails. It made a long round tube. I check price on yarn first, then type and color. I usually end up making afghan's so price is very important.
