Polka Dot Trinket Tray

Welcome to Expo International's "Hello Spring" Blog Hop
 celebrating National Craft Month

Expo International  sent me a wonderful packet of trims to create with. My first reaction when I saw them. "Wow I can create all kinds of fun trinkets with these trims!" But what happens when you have trinkets? You need some place to put them. So I started out creating a fun trinket tray.

Supplies Needed:

24"-Lorlana Baby Pom Pom Fringe Trim (White)
12"-1/8" Rayon Mini Rick Rack (Aqua Blue)
1- small glass plate, 6-8" in diameter
1-small glass pot, 3" in diameter
Plaid Crafts Folk Art Enamel Multi-Surface Paint (Aqua)
Plaid Crafts Folk Art Tools Detail Painter (Large)
paint brush
E-6000
optional: oven

To Make: 

1. Wash and dry glass pot and plate. 
2. Using the paint brush, paint glass pot, covering entire surface.
3. Use the large detail painter to add random polka dots to the plate.
   
4. To set paint permanently: Either allow paint to cure for 21 days OR allow paint to dry 1 hour then place dishes into a cold oven,  allow oven to reach 350 degrees,  bake for 30 minutes, turn off oven and allow dishes cool before handling. 
5. After dishes have cooled use E-6000 to glue Mini Pom Pom Trim to inside of the rim of glass pot with pom-poms facing up. Glue Mini Pom-Pom trim to the outside of the rim with pom-poms facing down. 
6. Glue the rick-rack between the rows of pom-poms. 
7. Glue decorated pot to the plate allow to dry.

Adorn It Blog Hop!

Hello! Welcome to the ADORN it, blog hop!

If you have been following along the hop, you should have joined us from Susan's blog, if you are new and want to start at the beginning, please visit ADORNit's Blog to start from the beginning.

The wonderful gals from ADORNit sent me a huge box of goodies to play with to feature their new Art Play Paintables line. The Paintable line features wonderful drawings for you to fill in with paint, marker, or even leave as is. The designs are printed on a nice heavy art paper (#80 cardstock weight), to help prevent curling when (if) it gets wet with your chosen medium.

I loved this line. I have always wanted to be able to draw but never inherited the skill of my mom or my sister, this allowed me to be an artist by simply coloring (painting) in the lines ;) Two of the images from the Home Paintable line just spoke to me, I had the perfect people to give them to! I decided to simply paint and frame them. 

After using watercolor pencils and crayons to fill in the images,  I softened the lines with water. I accented the drawings here and there with stickles, glitter glue and smooch inks just to give the piece a bit of shimmer and sparkle. Loosely cutting them out,  I mounted the images on paper from the ADORNit!  Blender Basics collection pack. After framing the pieces I still thought there was something missing,  so to make the images "pop-out" of the frames,  I accented them with some jute twine and matching buttons I had on hand from my stash. I loved how quick these gifts came together!

Next, I created a couple of cards using images from the "Be Awesome" collection.

Again I used watercolor pencils and crayons to fill in the images and softened them with water. To get some of the brighter accents on the piece, I dipped my watercolor pencil directly into the water then dabbed the drips off on paper towel. The wet pencil allowed for a precise line burst of color as seen on the "Be Happy" and the frame around the 2nd card. I mounted the images again using paper from the Blender Basics collection pack, this time punching out a lacy border with a Little B "honeycomb" border punch that was inked with Ranger distress ink in "Vintage Photo".

My final project is a wall hanging.  I used an image from the "Life's Journey" Paintable.

Here the image served as the focal piece for a 12' x 12' canvas. The canvas itself was edged in blue, green and gold Faber Castell gelatos then I off set the background paper ("Chapter Two" from ADORNit's Storybook Collection.) Before mounting, my background paper was zigzag stitched along the edges and stenciled with the gold lines with some watered down gelatos using the Crafter's Workshop "Swirls and Flowers" template. My house paintable was colored with watercolor pencils, and accented with candy red stickles, then framed with an inked paper doily.  The larger hearts were created freehand with some scrap cardstock that were inked and heat embossed. The title consists of random chipboard letters from my stash that were also inked and then accented with white pen stitching. A simple double length of grosgrain ribbon was used as a decorative hanger.

I can't wait to play more with the Paintables line. It was relaxing to put on an old movie,  pull out the watercolor pencils and crayons and color and paint and have something fun to create with when finished. Welcome to the 2012 Fiskateer Spring Blog Hop!

Anyone that knows me knows I LOVE Fiskateers! This fabulous crafting community has not only provided me with inspiration and friendships, but a voice into a company that creates some of my favorite tools! If you would like information on how you can become a Fiskateer click on the link above and then "join".

The project I'm sharing with you today is using one of my very favorite tools the Fiskars Craft Drill. I didn't know this baby existed until I read about it on the fiskateer blog several years back and once I got one, I started using it to drill everything! (Plus as an added bonus, use a screwdriver bit on it and saves you from using the power drill on many projects.)

I initially found this project on Pinterest the original poster was from The blissfully content life. She used a hammer and nail for the project, I thought using my Fiskars Craft Drill might be a bit easier.

Supplies needed: A mason jar-I love the look of the old ones and found a couple at a garage sale), A pump top-you can pick these up at a craft store for around a dollar or go green and recycle one from a shampoo bottle like I did, a rubber washer, hot glue gun, Fiskars craft drill and a drill bit to match the size of the tubing of your pump, scissors and a pair of pliers.

1) To start mark off the middle of lid, using your drill make a hole in the lid, If you are using the antique style jars there will be a porcelain liner under the lid that will crack, remove those pieces when you are able.

2) When your hole is made test to make sure the pump tube will fit. You might need to drill holes side by side for some of the pumps that have oblong shaped upper pieces for the pump mechanism. If needed you can use a pair of pliers to bend down to finish any rough edges.


3)Then measure the pump tubing against the jar and trim as necessary. Remember to trim the tubing at an angle, if the tubing is flat against the bottom of the jar the soap can't get into the pump.

4) When it's trimmed, remove the tubing from the lid and thread the rubber washer onto the pump making sure it's smaller than the outside of the pump housing, (you can trim it if necessary.) Thread the pump back into the lid and glue the pump into place using hot glue. I find it easier if you hold the pump upside-down by the tubing to glue.



5) When the glue is set you are ready to fill it and enjoy.



Like it?? (I couldn't resist getting my freshly bloomed tulips in the shot, I love spring!)  This project really takes longer to explain than actually do and the end result is an adorable "vintage" soap dispenser!
